Description

There is a difference between a jersey with a number on it and a jersey with a number stitched into it. The difference is thread count, and it is visible at two metres. The lettering across the chest, the 42 on the back, the name plate, and the sleeve patches on this jersey are all embroidered in thread, not heat-pressed vinyl. Vinyl cracks along the fold lines within a season. Thread does not.

The body is a perforated polyester mesh, the same construction logic as a real baseball jersey: light, breathable, and built to move sweat away rather than hold it. The front is fully buttoned in a classic baseball cut with a V-neck opening, short sleeves, and a hem that sits at the hip. Vintage baseball culture supplies the palette: a blue and white that reads as a 1940s uniform, and a beige that reads as a reproduction washed by seventy years of sunlight.

Sizing runs XS through XXXL in men's cut, which means it can be worn fitted or two sizes up for the oversized streetwear proportion that most people actually want from a jersey. The embroidery density is what keeps the shape of the lettering crisp after washing, and it is also why this piece costs what it costs: stitching a name plate takes a machine nine times longer than printing one.

It is a piece of clothing with a story attached, and the story is why people wear it to a ballpark instead of a team shirt. The number is the point. The rest is mesh and thread.

Printed jerseys fade. Stitched ones get better with the years.

Where a jersey belongs

It belongs to game day, and to the days that only look like game day. Ballpark seats, a bar with the volume turned up, a streetwear layer over a long-sleeve tee, a themed party where the theme is American sport. It is also the easiest gift in menswear: the size range is wide, the fit is forgiving, and the number does the personalising for you.

Sizing and washing

Q: Is the lettering printed or stitched?

Stitched. Chest lettering, back number, name plate and sleeve patches are all embroidered in thread. If you receive a heat-transfer print, that is a packing error and we will replace it.

Q: How does it fit compared to a t-shirt?

It runs like a standard men's shirt with a straighter body. Take your usual shirt size for a clean fit, or one size up for the oversized streetwear line.

Q: Will the mesh be see-through?

The perforations are fine enough to stay opaque in normal light. Under strong backlight, a dark undershirt is the sensible choice, as with any athletic mesh.

Q: Does washing damage the embroidery?

Cold wash inside out and hang dry. The thread is dense enough to survive a machine, but heat is what puckers any embroidered panel.

Q: Is this an officially licensed jersey?

No. It is an independent tribute jersey produced by our partner workshop, sold as fan apparel.

Q: Does the number 42 jersey work as everyday clothing?

That is how most people wear it. Over a long-sleeve tee with denim it reads as streetwear rather than costume, and the mesh body makes it wearable in summer when a cotton jersey would be too warm.

Q: What is the name plate on the back?

The name plate is embroidered in the same thread weight as the number, stitched to the upper back below the collar line. It is part of the reproduction detail rather than an optional add-on.

Our replacement rule

Every order is checked against the photographs above before it is packed, and it travels with tracking from the workshop to your door. If something arrives damaged, wrong, or simply not as described, write to us with a photo and we will replace it or refund it. No forms, no argument.

Oversized works, size up once

I wanted the streetwear proportion rather than a fitted jersey and one size up delivered it. The beige reads as a washed vintage tone rather than a flat cream, which surprised me in a good way. Buttons are functional, so it opens fully.

Bought it as a gift and kept it

The name plate and sleeve patches are all embroidered, no heat transfer anywhere. My brother is a large and the length was right on him. Washed inside out once already and the lettering has not puckered.

Thread, not vinyl, and it shows

You can see the raised stitching on the number from across a room, which is the difference between this and the printed jerseys at twice the price. The mesh is genuinely perforated so it breathes on a warm day. Took my usual shirt size and the body is straight without being boxy.
