Description

Storage is not a problem of shelves. It is a problem of air, and every duvet, coat and winter jumper is holding far more of it than the item itself needs. A vacuum bag does not make a wardrobe bigger. It removes the volume that was never the garment in the first place, which is why a twelve-piece set changes what a cupboard can hold rather than simply tidying what it already holds.

The build decisions are the ones that decide whether a compression bag survives a second season. The seal is a double zip with a stay-on clip, so the track cannot open under pressure, and the valve is a turbine type rather than a flat disc, which extracts air evenly instead of collapsing the middle of the bag and trapping a pocket at each corner. The material is a PA plus PE composite: the nylon layer resists puncture at the fold lines where cheap bags split, and the polyethylene layer is what holds the vacuum. With the electric pump, a king-size duvet compresses in under a minute; the hand pump is there for travel, where a socket is not.

The set is graded rather than uniform: three small bags at 40 by 60 cm for jumpers and travel packing, three medium at 50 by 70 cm, three large at 60 by 80 cm for coats, and three extra large at 70 by 100 cm for duvets and bedding. That grading is what makes the twelve bags usable instead of eleven bags that fit nothing. Compression runs up to about 75 percent of original volume, and the transparent front means you can identify what is inside without opening the seal and losing the vacuum.

You are not short of space. You are storing air at full price.

Why these seals hold

  • ✦ Double-zip seal with stay-on clip, so the track cannot peel open under compression the way single-zip bags do.
  • ✦ Turbine valve that extracts air evenly across the bag instead of collapsing the centre and trapping corner pockets.
  • ✦ PA plus PE composite film: nylon resists puncturing at the fold lines, polyethylene holds the vacuum.
  • ✦ Electric pump included for a king-size duvet in under a minute, plus a hand pump for travel without a socket.
  • ✦ Twelve bags graded across four sizes, 40x60 to 70x100 cm, instead of twelve identical bags that fit nothing.
  • ✦ Up to about 75 percent volume reduction, which is the difference between one cupboard and two.
  • ✦ Transparent front panel so contents are identifiable without breaking the seal and re-pumping.

Where the twelve bags get used

Use it for the seasonal swap that happens twice a year, when winter coats and summer linen cannot occupy the same cupboard at the same time. Use it for a move, where volume is billed and a compressed load fits in half the boxes. Use it for travel, packing a week of clothing into a cabin bag with the hand pump. It is also the practical answer for bedding in a small flat, for storing out-of-season childrenswear, and for anyone keeping spare duvets for guests in a space that has no linen cupboard.

Questions before you compress

Q: Do these work with any vacuum cleaner?

They work with the included electric pump, which is the recommended method because it pulls a steadier vacuum than a domestic cleaner. A standard vacuum hose fits the turbine valve as well, but the electric pump gives a tighter compression and is gentler on the film.

Q: Will compression damage down or wool?

Natural fills recover if they are not stored compressed indefinitely. For down duvets and wool coats, compress to about half rather than the maximum, and unpack them a day before use so the loft returns. For cotton, synthetics and knitwear, full compression is fine.

Q: How many times can one bag be reused?

Indefinitely, as long as the zip track is clean and the valve is closed before storage. The common failure is grit in the zip channel, so wipe the track before sealing. Bags that stop holding vacuum usually have a crease trapped in the seal rather than a hole.

Q: Can they be used for travel in a suitcase?

Yes, and that is what the hand pump is for. Compress soft items on the way out and leave the bag inflated on the return trip so you have volume for anything bought. Do not over-compress clothing you need wrinkle-free on arrival.

Q: What happens if a bag punctures?

The composite film is puncture resistant rather than puncture proof. A small hole can be sealed with the repair patch included in the set; a tear along a fold means the bag has reached the end of its life. Keep sharp hardware, such as coat hooks and zip pulls, away from the film edges.

Q: Do the bags keep moths and damp out?

Once sealed they exclude dust, insects and surface moisture, which is the main protection a stored garment needs. They are not a substitute for a dry environment: store them somewhere ventilated rather than against a cold external wall, where condensation forms.

Twelve bags that all fit something

Graded sizes was the reason I bought this over a uniform pack. Compressed two duvets, four coats and a stack of knitwear into what used to be one shelf and a half. Hand pump is genuinely usable for a suitcase.

Wipe the zip track before sealing

One bag lost vacuum on the first try because a bit of lint sat in the channel; cleaned it and it held fine. The turbine valve pulls evenly, which is why the corners do not stay puffy the way they did with my old flat-disc bags.

A king duvet in under a minute

Electric pump is the difference between this being a chore and being nothing. Double zip with the clip slid on stayed sealed for three weeks in a loft. Four sizes meant the small bags actually got used for jumpers instead of sitting in a drawer.
