Description

Recovery work is a calculation about what happens when the load is heavier than expected. The Hauler begins with the number that governs every other decision: 9,260 lbs of working load limit, backed by a 4:1 design factor. The chain itself is 5/16 inch G80 manganese steel, three feet per leg in a V-bridle configuration, which is the geometry that turns a single recovery point into two and spreads the pull across the frame instead of concentrating it on one hook. Nothing in this description is decorative. A towing bridle is the component that decides whether a recovery ends with a vehicle on a flatbed or with a hook through a windscreen.

Grade 80 is the rating that matters, and the product carries the DOT-related certification to match. Galvanising follows the assembly rather than the wire, so the finish covers the links, the RTJ cluster hook and the D-shackle as a single sealed surface — the reason this chain still looks like a tool after a winter of road salt and wet gravel rather than a rusted question mark. The finish is also why it can be left on a truck bed or in an open trailer between jobs without the maintenance ritual that uncoated chain demands.

The hook set is chosen for the messiness of real vehicles rather than for a catalogue photograph. R hooks, T hooks and the large J hooks cover frame slots, axle tubes and factory tie-down points across the makes you are most likely to be pulling, so the same bridle works on a sedan, a crossover and a light truck without adapters. Weighing 19.8 lbs, it is heavy enough to feel like something that will hold, and manageable enough for one person to throw, hook and tension without help.

A chain does not negotiate. It either holds the load or it tells you, very loudly, that you chose the wrong one.

Key Features

  • ✦ 9,260 lbs working load limit: rated capacity per bridle with a 4:1 design factor, so the failure point sits well beyond the working figure.
  • ✦ Grade 80 manganese steel: the tensile grade required for load-bearing recovery and lifting hardware, DOT-related certified.
  • ✦ 5/16 inch, 3 ft V-bridle: two legs from a single attachment point, distributing pull across the chassis instead of one hook.
  • ✦ R, T and large J hook set: covers frame slots, axle tubes and factory tie-down points without adapters.
  • ✦ Hot-dip galvanised finish: applied after assembly so links, hook and D-shackle share one sealed, rust-resistant surface.
  • ✦ RTJ cluster hook and D-shackle included: the full rigging assembly arrives ready to attach, not in pieces.
  • ✦ 19.8 lbs with 3% tolerance: heavy enough to be credible in the hand, light enough for one person to handle unaided.

Application Scenarios

The Hauler is built for vehicles that get stuck in places a tow truck cannot easily reach. On a farm, it connects a tractor or a UTV to a bogged trailer, spreading load across the frame rather than tearing at a single bumper point. For roadside recovery and towing operators, the G80 certification and 9,260 lb limit put it inside the range of a light commercial tow without stepping up to heavy rigging. Off-road drivers use the bridle to equalise a winch pull across two chassis points, which is what keeps a recovery from bending a unibody. It also serves straightforward lifting and moving work — dragging machinery onto a trailer, repositioning a shipping container anchor, or moving a vehicle that will not roll under its own power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does a 4:1 design factor mean?

The chain is built to a breaking strength roughly four times its working load limit. The 9,260 lb figure is the working limit; the failure point is designed to sit far beyond it, which is the safety margin recovery work depends on.

Q: Will the hooks fit my vehicle?

The set includes R hooks, T hooks and large J hooks, which cover the factory tie-down slots and axle points on most passenger cars, crossovers and light trucks. If your vehicle uses a specific OEM hook shape, those adapters can be added at the point of attachment.

Q: Is the chain galvanised or painted?

Galvanised after assembly, so the coating seals the links, the cluster hook and the D-shackle together. This resists road salt, rain and the humidity that destroys uncoated chain in a single season.

Q: Can it be used for lifting as well as towing?

It is intended for towing, dragging and moving loads. It carries Grade 80 certification with DOT-related compliance, and R, T and J hooks suitable for different attachment scenarios, but lifting operations should always be planned around the rated working load limit and the applicable local rules.

Q: How should the chain be used safely?

Seat the load in the centre of the hook rather than on the tip, and never allow the chain to twist, invert or knot. A twisted chain loses a significant fraction of its rated capacity.

Q: How much does the bridle weigh?

19.8 lbs (9 kg) with a 3% manufacturing tolerance, which is manageable for a single person to handle and hook without assistance.

Weight feels trustworthy

Twenty pounds of chain in the hand tells you something. Seating the load in the centre of the hook as described, no twisting, and it has taken everything I have asked of it.

Solid build, needs a shackle check

Chain and cluster hook are clearly heavy duty and the D-shackle pins seat properly. I still check the pin torque before every pull, which you should do with any rigging regardless of brand.

Hooks fit everything I own

The R, T and J hooks covered my pickup, my brother's crossover and the workshop trailer without any adapters. Galvanising has not rusted through a winter of road salt on an open bed.

Recovered a loaded trailer without drama

Pulled a bogged box trailer out with a tractor and the V-bridle spread the load across both frame points instead of tearing at one. Grade 80 certification was the deciding factor when I ordered.
