Description

An inflatable board lives in a bag in a hallway for most of the year. It earns that space on the handful of mornings when the water is flat, the light is low and the only thing between you and a good hour is how quickly the board goes from bag to water.

The Koi Drift is 11 feet 6 inches of drop-stitch PVC, which is the construction that gives an inflatable board its rigidity. Thousands of internal threads hold the top and bottom skins at a fixed distance, so the board keeps a flat rocker line under a standing rider instead of sagging in the middle. Heat-welded seams carry the load at the rails, and the EVA deck pad gives grip without shredding a wetsuit.

Eleven and a half feet is a deliberate length. It tracks straighter than a short all-round board, covers distance with fewer strokes and still turns when you step back onto the tail. That suits flat water, slow rivers, harbour basins and the kind of coastal morning where the swell has not arrived yet. The pattern on the deck is the part people notice on the beach, and the shape underneath is the part that keeps them out longer.

It travels as a package. Deflated and rolled, the board goes into a backpack that fits a car boot or a train luggage rack, and the kit arrives with a paddle, a hand pump, a removable centre fin, an ankle leash and a carry bag. Inflate to the pressure marked on the rail, check the fin is seated, and the assembly is finished before the tide turns.

The water is not asking you to be ready. It is asking you to arrive.

Why This Configuration Works

  • Drop-stitch PVC construction — internal threads hold the deck and hull apart, so the board stays stiff under a standing rider.
  • 11 foot 6 inch length — tracks straight and covers distance with fewer strokes than a short all-round board.
  • Heat-welded seams — rail seams are bonded rather than glued, which is where inflatables usually fail first.
  • EVA deck pad — textured traction underfoot without abrading a wetsuit or bare skin.
  • Removable centre fin — tracks straight with the fin in, and packs flat with it out.
  • Rolls into a backpack — deflated board fits a car boot, a locker or a train luggage rack.
  • Complete starter package — paddle, hand pump, fin, leash and carry bag arrive with the board.

Where it belongs

First-time buyers use an 11 foot 6 inch board because it is stable enough to stand on without a lesson turning into a swim, and long enough that paddling up a river does not feel like work. Anglers and photography paddlers like the flat deck and the load capacity of a longer board. Families keep one in the car for lake days, and travellers choose an inflatable because it goes in a suitcase rather than on a roof rack.

Questions Buyers Ask Before Ordering

Q: How long does it take to inflate?

A: With the supplied hand pump, most riders reach working pressure in six to ten minutes. An electric pump shortens that considerably.

Q: What pressure should it run at?

A: Inflate to the pressure printed on the rail of your board. Drop-stitch boards are designed to run hard, and an under-inflated board feels unstable and tracks poorly.

Q: Will it fit in a normal car?

A: Yes. Rolled and bagged it goes in a boot or across a back seat, which is the reason most people choose an inflatable over a hard board.

Q: Is it stable enough for a beginner?

A: The length and width make it forgiving for a first season. Start on flat water, kneel first, and stand once you have forward momentum.

Q: What exactly comes in the box?

A: The board, paddle, hand pump, removable fin, ankle leash and carry bag. Confirm any variant-specific accessory with support before ordering.

Q: How should it be stored?

A: Clean it with fresh water after salt exposure, dry it fully, and store it deflated and out of direct sun. UV is what ages PVC fastest.

Q: Can it handle surf?

A: It handles small, clean surf. It is designed for flat water and touring, so it is not a dedicated wave board.

Beginner friendly at this length

First board, first season, and I was standing within twenty minutes on flat water. The length means it does not spin when I paddle unevenly. Everyone on the beach asks about the pattern on the deck.

Great board, budget a better pump

The board itself is excellent and the bag fits in the boot of a small hatchback. The hand pump works but ten minutes of pumping gets old by the second weekend. I bought an electric pump and now it is a two minute setup.

Stiff once it is pumped up

I was sceptical about an inflatable holding a rider this size. At the pressure marked on the rail it is stiff enough that I forget it is air. Tracks straight across the lake and the deck pad grips even when wet.
