Description
Most menswear stops at XXL and calls it generous. This shirt goes to 8XL, which means the difference between a garment that is available in your size and a garment that was actually cut for it. The pattern is graded across nine sizes rather than stretched from a medium, and the shoulder, armhole and body length move independently. That is the whole reason a big-and-tall piece either works or hangs like a tent.
Inside, a double-sided fleece lining. Outside, a matte polyester shell with a square collar and a full button placket, so it reads as an overshirt in daylight and behaves like a light jacket in cold air. The fabric is no-iron by construction: polyester holds its press through a wash and a suitcase, which is why it is the shirt that gets packed rather than the one that gets ironed.
The length range tells the story: 99 cm at L rising to 137.9 cm at 8XL, measured flat from the shoulder. That is not a shirt stretched vertically, it is a shirt cut for height as well as girth. Colours run across the neutral band, twenty-odd variants from charcoal to khaki, so a wardrobe can be built from one pattern.
Wear it as the outer layer in autumn and the mid layer in deep winter. It is warm without weight, which is the only property that matters once the temperature drops and the central heating comes on.
A size range is not a courtesy. It is a pattern.

Who wears it and when
It belongs to the commute, the warehouse floor, the deer stand, and the Sunday where the heating is on but the car is not. Big-and-tall customers tend to buy two: one in charcoal for work, one in khaki for everything else. Because the fabric is no-iron and quick drying, it also suits anyone who lives out of a bag for a living.
Sizing for big and tall
Q: How do I pick between L and 3XL when I am between sizes?
Measure a shirt that already fits you across the chest, flat, armpit to armpit, and compare it with the size chart. The grading is generous through the body, so when in doubt take the smaller size for a fitted overshirt and the larger for a jacket layer.
Q: Is the fleece lining on the whole body or just the chest?
Full body and sleeves, double sided. It is a lined shirt, not a shirt with a panel.
Q: Will it shrink?
Polyester with a fleece backing does not shrink the way cotton does. Wash cold and hang dry and the length change is negligible.
Q: Does it work as a jacket on its own?
Down to about 10 degrees Celsius with a t-shirt underneath, yes. Below that it is better as a mid layer under a shell.
Q: Are the colours accurate to the photographs?
The neutrals are close. Deep dyes read slightly darker indoors, which is normal for a matte polyester and not a defect.
Q: Does the 8XL actually have longer sleeves, or just a wider body?
Longer sleeves and a longer body. The pattern grades length and width separately across the run, which is why the flat length climbs from 99 cm at L to 137.9 cm at 8XL rather than staying fixed.
Q: Can it be worn untucked?
Yes, though on shorter frames the length will read as a shirt-jacket rather than a shirt. That is the intended look for this piece, so it is a feature rather than a compromise.
