Description

Energy Should Bend to Your Life, Not the Other Way Around.

Traditional solar panels are monuments to rigidity — heavy aluminum frames, tempered glass faces, mounting rails that demand drilling into perfectly good roofs. They announce their presence. They dominate the architecture. The Solara Sheet takes the opposite approach: it is a photovoltaic surface so thin and flexible it conforms to the curve of an RV roof, the camber of a boat deck, or the gentle arch of a tiny home. At 250 watts of monocrystalline output in a 2.5mm-thick package weighing under 6 kilograms, it achieves what rigid panels accomplish at three times the weight and ten times the installation complexity.

The monocrystalline cells at the Solara Sheet's core are the same high-efficiency silicon that powers grid-scale solar farms — 22% conversion efficiency means every square meter of panel converts more sunlight into usable electricity than polycrystalline alternatives. The ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) surface layer is not just weatherproof; it is optically optimized to reduce reflection losses that steal energy before photons ever reach the photovoltaic layer. In plain language: this panel makes power while rigid panels are still warming up.

The sun does not care about mounting brackets. Neither should your solar panel.

Key Features

  • 250W monocrystalline output — 22% cell efficiency for maximum energy density per square meter
  • 2.5mm ultra-thin flexible design — conforms to curved surfaces up to 30 degrees of curvature
  • ETFE surface lamination — superior to PET in UV resistance, light transmission, and long-term durability
  • Under 6 kg total weight — no structural reinforcement needed; installs with adhesive or grommets
  • IP67 waterproof junction box with MC4 connectors — fully submersible and marine-rated
  • 5-year power output warranty with 25-year linear performance guarantee
  • 18V nominal output — compatible with 12V/24V battery systems via MPPT or PWM controller

Application Scenarios

The Solara Sheet's flexibility transforms vehicle energy systems. RV and campervan installations — adhere directly to curved fiberglass or aluminum roofs without drilling, adding 250W of silent charging to your leisure battery system. Marine decks and cabin tops — the IP67 waterproof rating and salt-spray resistance make these panels at home on sailboats, yachts, and fishing vessels where space is tight and weather is relentless. Tiny homes and off-grid cabins — lightweight installation on metal or composite roofing without structural reinforcement; chain multiple panels for 500W–1KW arrays. Overlanding and expedition vehicles — the flexible form factor survives vibrations and trail impacts that would crack glass panels. Portable ground deployment — roll out on any flat surface for temporary charging at campsites, festivals, or emergency power situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does ETFE compare to PET lamination on flexible panels?

A: ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) is the premium surface material for flexible solar. Compared to PET, ETFE offers approximately 5% higher light transmission, significantly better UV resistance (no yellowing over years of sun exposure), and superior mechanical durability against abrasion and hail impact. ETFE-laminated panels maintain their rated output far longer than PET equivalents.

Q: Can I walk on these panels after installation?

A: No. Flexible panels are designed for surface mounting, not foot traffic. Direct weight on the cells can create micro-cracks that reduce output over time. Install in locations that are not part of the walking path on your deck or roof.

Q: What charge controller do I need?

A: The Solara Sheet outputs 18V nominal (21.6V open circuit). For 12V battery systems, use an MPPT charge controller rated for at least 15A input. For 24V systems, an MPPT controller rated for 10A. MPPT is strongly recommended over PWM — the efficiency gain (20-30% more harvest) pays for the controller within months.

Q: Can multiple panels be connected in series or parallel?

A: Yes. Parallel connection (positive to positive, negative to negative) maintains 18V output while summing current — ideal for 12V systems. Series connection sums voltage — two panels in series produce ~36V, suitable for 24V battery banks. Never exceed your charge controller's maximum input voltage.

Q: How does heat affect flexible panel performance?

A: All solar panels lose efficiency as temperature rises (temperature coefficient ~ -0.35%/°C). However, flexible panels mounted with an air gap beneath perform better than flush-mounted rigid panels because the thin profile allows faster heat dissipation. At 45°C ambient, expect approximately 93% of rated output.

Tiny home solar solution

Running three of these in parallel on our tiny home's metal roof. Total 750W array feeds an MPPT controller and charges a 400Ah LiFePO4 bank. The lightweight design meant I could install everything alone without structural reinforcement. Two months in and zero degradation. The ETFE lamination is noticeably better than the PET panels I used on my last project — no yellowing at all.

Great for van life

Installed on our Sprinter van roof which has a slight curve — the flexibility meant perfect adherence with no gaps. Output is as advertised when the sun cooperates. Only note: the junction box is slightly bulkier than I expected, so plan your cable routing accordingly. Otherwise, these panels are the reason our fridge runs 24/7 without shore power.

Perfect for our sailboat

Mounted two of these on the curved cabin top of our 34-foot sailboat using 3M VHB tape — no drilling, no brackets. Three months of Pacific Northwest cruising and they haven't budged. Power output is consistent with the 250W rating; we're seeing about 220W in real-world conditions which is excellent. The ETFE surface sheds salt spray like nothing. Way better than the rigid panels we used to have that added 40 pounds to the boat.
