Description

A pack is a promise about how much of the world you can carry. Most of the market is split between daypacks that hold a jacket and water, and expedition sacks that hold everything and weigh nothing less for it. The Trail Meridian is built for the distance in between, where most trips actually live. The 25-litre version measures 40 by 25 by 25 centimetres and suits an afternoon from city to trail. The 45-litre version measures 50 by 30 by 30 centimetres and takes a weekend of clothes, food and a sleeping layer without becoming a burden.

Both share the same construction. The body is a softback polyester shell with a polyester lining, closed by a top zipper and finished with embroidery rather than printed graphics. A soft frame is not a shortcoming here; it is what lets the pack compress down to almost nothing when half loaded and expand when the trip grows. The lining protects the shell from the inside, so a rough-edged tool or a wet stove does not abrade the fabric from within, which is usually what ends a cheap pack's life.

Five colourways are offered, red, green, khaki, white and black, and each carries a removable flag patch held on a hook-and-loop fastener. The patch that arrives depends on the warehouse the order ships from: the ES and US flag from Spain, the UK flag from the United Kingdom, and the US flag from Poland and the United States. It comes off in a second, so the pack can travel as quietly as the wearer prefers. The fit is unisex and the sizing is honest, so a 25-litre load teaches you to pack once and a 45-litre load forgives the extra fleece.

It is not luggage. It is the amount of life you can get onto your back.

The case for this pack rests on three claims: that the right volume solves more problems than extra features, that a soft frame beats a rigid one for mixed use, and that a pack should not announce where its owner has been. Each point below supports one of those claims.

Where This Pack Fits In

The Trail Meridian suits three kinds of traveller. The first walks or cycles to work with a laptop, a change of clothes and a lunch, and needs a 25-litre pack that looks like a bag rather than a mountaineering rig. The second takes weekend trips by train or budget flight and wants one bag that satisfies a cabin allowance without being a soft trolley. The third hikes and camps in short bursts and wants a pack that can go from a full weekend load to a near-empty daypack without a second purchase. All three are served by the same idea, which is that a pack should change shape with the plan rather than the other way around.

Trekkers' Questions

Q: Which size should I choose, 25L or 45L?

Take the 25-litre for commuting, day walks and short trips where weight matters. Take the 45-litre for overnight and weekend trips that need clothing, food and a sleeping layer.

Q: Are the 25L and 45L the same pack in different sizes?

They share the same softback polyester construction, polyester lining and top zipper closure. The difference is volume and exterior dimensions: 40 x 25 x 25 cm against 50 x 30 x 30 cm.

Q: What is the flag patch and can I remove it?

Each pack carries a flag patch on a hook-and-loop fastener. It peels off in seconds, so the pack can be used without a national marking.

Q: Which flag will I receive?

The patch matches the dispatch warehouse. Orders from Spain receive the ES and US flag, orders from the United Kingdom receive the UK flag, and orders from Poland or the United States receive the US flag.

Q: Is it suitable for a laptop?

The 45-litre version takes a laptop comfortably inside the main cavity alongside clothing. For daily laptop carry the 25-litre version is the lighter choice.

Q: How does it cope when it is not full?

Because the frame is soft, the pack compresses down against the load. A half-empty 45-litre bag does not hang like an empty crate the way a rigid-frame pack does.

Q: Does 45 litres meet cabin baggage limits?

A 50 x 30 x 30 cm pack is within the dimensions of most major airlines' cabin allowances, though soft-sided packs compress further if a gate measurement is tight. Check your carrier's published limit before flying.

Q: Can the pack be cleaned?

Wipe the polyester shell with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry. Avoid machine washing, which can distort the embroidery and the patch fastener.

Light, roomy and understated

Wanted something that did not look tactical for city to trail days. The khaki 25L is exactly that, the zips run smoothly, and the embroidery is subtle rather than loud.

45L handled a weekend well

Took the 45 litre version on a two night trip by train. Clothes, food and a sleeping layer all fitted, and the polyester lining means my stove has not marked the inside. The removable flag patch came off cleanly.

The 25L is perfect for commuting

I cycle to work with a laptop, a change of clothes and lunch and the 25 litre version swallows all of it without looking like a hiking pack. The soft back moulds to the load instead of staying rigid when it is half empty.
