描述

Refrigerant hose fails in one place: the barrier layer. A hose that holds pressure but lets gas seep through the wall will empty a system over a season and leave the technician guessing. The Cold Line is a fabric reinforced synthetic rubber hose built to SAE J2064, with an eight millimetre bore and a 3.5 mm wall that resists permeation.

The construction is layered. An inner tube carries the refrigerant, a fabric braid takes the pressure and stops the hose from stretching at the crimp, and an outer jacket handles abrasion against chassis edges and engine bay heat. Inner diameter is 8 mm, outer diameter 15 mm, wall thickness 3.5 mm with a 0.4 mm tolerance, which is the range most R134A service fittings are cut for.

Hose is sold by the metre, which is how a workshop actually buys it. Measure the run, add the length the crimp collars consume, and order the number of metres you need. It cuts cleanly with a hose cutter, crimps with standard R134A fittings, and holds a vacuum before the system is charged.

A refrigeration system is only as tight as its weakest metre of hose.

Construction that holds gas

  • ✦ Fabric reinforced synthetic rubber, built to SAE J2064 for R134A service.
  • ✦ 8 mm bore and 3.5 mm wall resist permeation better than thin single-layer hose.
  • ✦ Fabric braid carries pressure and protects the crimp from stretching.
  • ✦ Abrasion-resistant outer jacket stands up to engine bay routing.
  • ✦ Sold by the metre so you buy the run length, not a fixed coil.
  • ✦ Cuts and crimps with standard R134A service fittings.
  • ✦ Holds vacuum before charging, which is the test that matters.

Where it gets used

Workshops use it for A/C line repairs where the original hard line has corroded at a fitting. Mobile technicians keep a coil on the van so a failed hose does not end the call. Agricultural and plant mechanics run it on cab cooling systems that see more vibration than a car ever will. Because it is priced by the metre, it also suits the one-off repair where buying a pre-made assembly is both slower and more expensive than crimping a length on the bench.

Ordering and fitting

Q: Is the price for one metre?

Yes. Each unit ordered is one metre of hose. Order the number of metres you need for the run plus the allowance for crimp collars.

Q: What fittings does it take?

Standard R134A service fittings in the 8 mm bore range. Crimp with the die set your existing tooling uses; the 15 mm outer diameter is the number to match.

Q: Can it be used with R12 or R1234yf?

It is specified for R134A. For other refrigerants, check the permeation requirements of the system before substituting.

Q: How do I cut it cleanly?

Use a hose cutter rather than a hacksaw. A square, burr-free cut is what lets the crimp collar seal on the first attempt.

Q: Does it hold vacuum?

Yes, when crimped correctly. Pull a vacuum before charging and watch for a rise in pressure; that is the only proof that matters.

Q: How much length should I add for crimping?

Allow roughly two to three centimetres per end for the collar and the insertion depth, depending on the fitting style.

Q: Can I use it for fuel or oil lines?

No. This is a refrigerant hose specified for R134A. Fuel and oil lines need a different inner liner that resists hydrocarbon attack.

Q: How should I store spare metres?

Coil it loosely, keep it out of sunlight, and cap the ends. Rubber takes a set if it is stored tightly coiled under a weight for months.

Q: Is there a minimum order length?

Each unit is one metre, and you can order as many metres as the job needs. There is no fixed coil to buy through.

Q: Will it fit a 5/16 inch service port hose end?

Check the fitting against the 8 mm bore and 15 mm outer diameter before crimping. Most R134A service hose ends for this bore size fit; measure rather than assume.

How it ships

Continuous hose cut to the metres you order, sealed and labelled with the specification. If a length arrives kinked or with a damaged jacket, send a photograph and we replace those metres.

Cuts clean

A proper hose cutter gives a square end and the collar seals without fuss. No permeation smell after a month in service.

Priced by the metre, plan ahead

Good hose but remember each unit is one metre. I under-ordered the first time and had to order again for the second line.

Crimps and holds vacuum

Repaired a line on a tractor cab and it held vacuum first time. The wall thickness is noticeably heavier than the hose I replaced.
