描述

A washer is the least glamorous part in any assembly and the one that decides whether the joint holds. It spreads clamp load across a wider footprint, protects the substrate from the nut face, and keeps dissimilar metals from galling each other. Skip it and the bolt crushes the material it was meant to secure. Use the wrong thickness and the fastener runs out of thread before it reaches torque.

The Exact Fit is a compartmented assortment of 304 stainless flat washers in eight or nine metric sizes running from M2 to M12, following the DIN 125 proportions that most European and Asian hardware is designed around. Thickness runs 0.5mm to 1.5mm across the range, so the stack height is predictable instead of improvised. 304 stainless carries the corrosion resistance that matters for wet environments, outdoor fittings, marine hardware and anything that will be inspected in five years rather than five weeks.

The case is the part most kits get wrong. Dividers hold each size in its own bay, the latch is positive rather than decorative, and the lid stays shut in a toolbox that gets carried. Two configurations are stocked: 620 pieces across nine sizes, and 1010 pieces across eight sizes for benches that consume M4, M5 and M6 faster than anything else. Both are RoHS compliant, which matters for anyone building equipment that will be sold into the EU.

Buying washers by the hundred from a local supplier costs a counter visit and a minimum order. Buying an assortment costs one shelf slot and ends the interruption.

Sizing is the one decision that rewards five seconds of thought. The washer bore should clear the bolt shank without slop, and the outer diameter should be wide enough to bridge the hole but not so wide that it overhangs the material and deforms under load. For soft substrates such as plastic or thin aluminium, a thicker washer spreads the load better than a wide thin one. For electrical work, a single flat washer under the nut is usually enough; stacking two adds a joint that can loosen under thermal cycling. Keep the case closed between jobs, because mixed washers cost more time to sort than they save in the moment.

Key Features

  • ✦ 304 stainless steel washers with genuine corrosion resistance, not zinc-plated mild steel
  • ✦ Metric range from M2 to M12 covering the sizes that actually get used
  • ✦ DIN 125 proportions with 0.5mm to 1.5mm thickness for predictable stack height
  • ✦ 620-piece nine-size or 1010-piece eight-size configuration
  • ✦ Compartmented case with positive latch and size-separated bays
  • ✦ RoHS compliant for equipment sold into the European market
  • ✦ Suitable for wet, outdoor, marine and electrical connection environments

Technical Specifications

  • Material: 304 stainless steel
  • Standard: DIN 125 flat washer proportions
  • Thickness range: 0.5mm to 1.5mm
  • 620-piece set: 9 sizes, M2 to M12 including M2.5
  • 1010-piece set: 8 sizes, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12
  • Finish: plain, no plating to chip or flake

  • Applications: sheet metal, drywall, fencing, electrical, automotive, marine
  • Magnetic behaviour: weakly magnetic, as expected of 304 austenitic grade

Application Scenarios

Electrical contractors use them behind terminal lugs where a stainless washer keeps the connection from loosening under heat cycling. Boat owners keep a case aboard because 304 survives salt spray far better than zinc-plated hardware. Workshop benches that rebuild small engines reach for M6 and M8 constantly, and the 1010-piece configuration is weighted toward that consumption. Makers building enclosures, camera rigs and 3D printer frames use the M2 and M2.5 sizes that hardware stores rarely stock below a hundred-piece minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is 304 stainless good enough for marine use?

A: For fresh water and occasional salt exposure, yes. Permanent saltwater immersion calls for 316, which carries molybdenum for chloride resistance. 304 will stain rather than fail in splash zones.

Q: Why are the washers slightly magnetic?

A: 304 is austenitic stainless and can become mildly magnetic after cold forming. A weak pull is normal and does not indicate mild steel. A strong pull would.

Q: Which set should I choose, 620 or 1010 pieces?

A: The 620-piece set adds M2.5 and suits mixed light assembly. The 1010-piece set carries more of the M4 to M6 sizes that workshop and maintenance use consumes fastest.

Q: Can I use these with high-tensile bolts?

A: Yes. Flat washers are not the load-limiting part in a joint. Match the washer bore to the bolt diameter and confirm the assembly still reaches specified torque with the added thickness.

Q: Do the dividers stay in place when the case is carried?

A: Yes, the bays are moulded into the case rather than inserted as loose cards, and the latch holds the lid closed. Keep the case flat in transport to prevent mixing between bays.

Q: Are these washers suitable for outdoor decking screws?

A: For stainless or coated decking screws, yes. 304 resists weathering and will not leave rust streaks on timber, which is the usual complaint with zinc-plated washers in exterior work.

Q: What is the difference between DIN 125 and SAE washers?

A: DIN 125 is the metric standard with proportionally thinner sections and metric bore sizing. SAE washers are sized in inches. Mixing the two on a metric fastener usually produces a loose or off-centre fit.

Solid but check your sizes

Good washers, no burrs, thickness is consistent. I mostly reach for M5 and M6 so I wish those bays were bigger, but the range is honest and the price is fair for stainless.

304 stainless holds up on the boat

Six weeks of salt air on a few deck fittings and no rust streaks at all. I bought a second set for the workshop after seeing how these held up outside.

The case is the reason to buy this

Sizes from M2 up to M12 in separated bays, and the lid actually latches. I have had assortments where everything mixes into soup the first time you carry them. Not this one.
