描述

The trip you actually take looks nothing like the trip in the brochure.

Most 45 litre packs are designed for an airport queue. They are tall, light and tidy, built to pass a cabin dimension check rather than to survive a wet field, a loaded truck bed or a train platform at midnight. The Fieldcraft was drawn from the other direction. It starts with 900D-grade fabric and a reinforced base, then adds a full MOLLE webbing grid so the capacity is a starting point rather than a limit. Pouches, tool rolls, hydration and camera rigs all attach where they are needed instead of being crammed inside.

The organisation is deliberate. Multiple zoned pockets separate the things you need in a hurry, wet layers and tools, from the things you only unpack at the end of the day. Load-bearing stitching and a padded back panel with breathable channeling carry the weight across the hips rather than the shoulders, which is what makes a 45 litre load bearable on the second hour of a climb. Compression straps collapse the bag when it is half full, so it does not become a flapping liability when you travel light.

It is built for the trip you actually take. Bushcraft weekends, multi-day treks, commuting with a laptop and gym kit, and the back of a pickup truck on a job site. One bag that is equally credible in all of them.

Carry less worry. Carry more of what matters.

The Fieldcraft is aimed at the person whose week does not fit one category. Monday to Friday it swallows a laptop, charger, gym kit and lunch without looking like a schoolbag. Friday night it becomes a two-day bushcraft pack with a tool roll and a water pouch strapped to the MOLLE grid. It is the bag that goes into an overhead locker on a short-haul flight and then onto a gravel track at the other end. It also earns its keep in the back of a work vehicle, where the reinforced base and heavy fabric handle being dragged across a load bed in a way that a lightweight travel pack will not survive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is 45 litres enough for a multi-day trip?

A: For two to four days with layered clothing and a sleep system, yes. The MOLLE grid adds external capacity for anything that does not need to be packed inside.

Q: What is the MOLLE grid for?

A: It is a webbing attachment system. Pouches, tool rolls, hydration carriers and camera rigs mount directly to the outside of the bag, so the 45 litres stays free for bulk.

Q: Will it fit as cabin luggage?

A: It is at the upper end of carry-on dimensions and depends on the airline. Compression straps are useful here because they tighten the profile when the bag is not full.

Q: Is the back panel ventilated?

A: Yes. It is padded with breathable channelling to move load onto the hips and reduce sweat build-up in the small of the back.

Q: How durable are the seams under load?

A: Stress points are bar-tacked and reinforced. The base is a separate reinforced panel, because that is where bags fail first.

Q: Can it be used for commuting?

A: Yes. Compression straps collapse the empty volume so it does not look or behave like an expedition pack on a weekday commute.

Q: How do I know whether 45 litres is right for me?

A: As a rule, 45 litres covers two to four days of layered clothing plus a sleep system. If you routinely carry more, the MOLLE grid lets you add external pouches rather than moving up to a larger and heavier bag.

Q: Are the zips waterproof?

A: The fabric and base are abrasion resistant rather than fully waterproof, which is the correct trade-off for a bag that gets set down and dragged. Add a rain cover for sustained heavy rain.

Q: Does it have a laptop sleeve?

A: It has zoned interior compartments that hold a laptop and paperwork securely, which is what makes it genuinely usable for a weekday commute as well as a trek.

Commuting Monday to Friday, camping at weekends

The compression straps stop it flapping when it is half full, so it does not look like an expedition pack on the train.

Great organisation, slightly heavy empty

It is a little heavier than an ultralight travel pack when completely empty, but that is the trade for the abrasion resistance. Zoned pockets keep quick-access gear separate.

The reinforced base is the selling point

I have wrecked two bags by setting them down on gravel. This one shows no wear on the base after two months of weekend use.

Took it on a three-day trek and the MOLLE grid did the work

I strapped a tool roll and a water pouch to the outside and kept the main compartment for layers and a sleep system. Load sat on my hips rather than my shoulders.
