描述

Anyone who has hung a lighting rig knows the arithmetic of cable. Two runs per fixture, power and data, and each run is another thing to coil, label, tape and lose. A combo cable solves a problem that is not electrical but logistical: it carries the Powercon connection and the DMX signal in one jacket, so a fixture needs one run instead of two. On a twelve-fixture truss that is twelve cables you no longer carry, and twelve fewer chances to plug data into power.

The construction matters more than the concept. Powercon connectors lock with a twist rather than relying on friction, which is the difference between a connection that survives a night of bass vibration and one that does not. The DMX line is a shielded signal pair inside the same jacket, kept physically separate from the mains conductors so the data does not pick up what the power is carrying. Hand-in-hand configuration means units chain from one to the next, which is how a truss is actually wired.

Two lengths are stocked: 2 metres for tight positions where a longer run becomes a coil of slack, and 3 metres for floor-to-truss and across-stage runs. The jacket is black, the connectors are moulded rather than assembled in the field, and the pair weighs 0.5 kg at 2 metres and 0.7 kg at 3 metres. Rated for 110 to 240 volts, so the same cable works on a European tour and a US venue without a step-down.

One run per fixture. Fewer coils, fewer faults, faster load-out.

What Makes It Different

  • ✦Powercon power and DMX signal carried in a single jacket, halving cable runs per fixture
  • ✦Twist-locking Powercon connectors that hold under vibration rather than relying on friction
  • ✦Shielded DMX pair kept physically separate from the mains conductors inside the jacket
  • ✦Hand-in-hand configuration for chaining fixtures along a truss
  • ✦Moulded connectors rather than field-assembled plugs, removing a common failure point
  • ✦Two stocked lengths, 2 metres for tight positions and 3 metres for floor-to-truss runs
  • ✦Rated 110 to 240 volts, so one inventory covers EU and US venues

Where It Earns Its Place

Built for the people who load in at four in the afternoon and load out at two in the morning: club and disco installs where fixtures chain along a truss, mobile DJs who want one bag instead of two, small theatre and church rigs where the cabling has to be tidy because the audience can see it, and rental houses that lose cables every weekend and want to standardise on one part number. The 2 metre length suits tight truss spacing; the 3 metre covers floor to first fixture and short cross-stage runs.

Questions Buyers Actually Ask

Q: Does one cable carry both power and data?

Yes. The jacket carries the Powercon mains connection and the DMX signal pair together, which is the point of the design: one run per fixture instead of two.

Q: Is the DMX line shielded?

The signal pair is shielded and runs separately from the mains conductors inside the jacket, which is what keeps induced noise off the data line.

Q: Can fixtures be chained?

Yes, the cable is configured hand in hand, so power and data pass from one fixture to the next along the truss. Respect the power draw limit of the circuit when chaining.

Q: Will it work in the US and in Europe?

It is rated 110 to 240 volts, so the cable itself is fine on either supply. The connector standard is the same; check the fixture input, not the cable.

Q: Are the connectors field-serviceable?

They are moulded, so they are not designed to be re-terminated. That is deliberate: a moulded boot removes the most common failure point in stage cabling, which is a hand-assembled plug coming loose.

Q: What is the return window?

Thirty days from delivery on unused cables in original packaging. Cables that have been used on a rig and show scuffs at the connector boots cannot be resold as new.

Moulded plugs are a plus, not a minus

You cannot re-terminate these because the connectors are moulded, which some people will dislike. For me that is the reason to buy, a hand assembled plug is what failed on my last set. Two metre is tight for anything but truss spacing.

Data line is properly shielded

No flicker on the DMX chain at all, which I had with a cheaper combo that was not shielded. The hand in hand configuration chains along the truss exactly as it should. Three metre length is right for floor to first fixture.

Halved my cable bag

Twelve fixtures meant twenty four runs before this, now it is twelve. The twist lock connectors hold through a full night of bass where friction fit ones work loose. Load out is measurably faster.
