描述

Most polo shirts are built for one season. The cotton is thin enough to photograph well, the collar holds its shape until the second wash, and by the following spring the garment has quietly become a rag for the garage. We wanted the opposite: a long-sleeve polo that survives a decade of Thursdays.

The answer turned out to be six percent wool blended into a long-staple cotton body. Wool does not make the shirt warmer in any dramatic way, and that is the point. It gives the yarn a memory. The collar rolls instead of collapsing, the cuffs spring back instead of flaring, and the fabric drapes with a weight that cotton alone never reaches. You feel it most in the shoulder seam after a long flight.

The cut follows Japanese casual tailoring rather than European sportswear: a straight body that skims rather than grips, a three-button placket that stops short of aggression, and a hem that stays where it is put when you raise your arms. Six colours, five sizes, thirty combinations in total, all cut from the same pattern. It is a quiet shirt that behaves like a considered one.

A shirt that holds its shape is a shirt you stop thinking about.

Why It Earns Its Place

  • ✦ 6% wool blended with long-staple cotton for shape memory and drape
  • ✦ Full-length sleeve with a placket that holds its line through repeated wear
  • ✦ Straight Japanese-casual body that skims the torso instead of gripping it
  • ✦ Six colourways across five sizes, all cut from a single pattern block
  • ✦ Breathable solid-weave knit suitable for spring and autumn layering
  • ✦ Reinforced collar band that resists rolling after washing
  • ✦ Machine washable cold, no special handling required

Where It Belongs

This is a working wardrobe piece for men who travel for business and do not want to iron at 6am in a hotel room. It reads correctly under a soft blazer in a meeting, holds up on a nine-hour flight, and still looks presentable at dinner the same evening. Buyers typically keep two or three colourways in rotation rather than one, because the shirt does not date itself. Mulberry blue and black cover office days, beige and grey carry weekends, and burgundy does the work that a black shirt cannot.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Is the wool itchy against the skin?

A: No. Six percent is a structural component woven into the cotton yarn, not a lining. The hand feel stays close to a mid-weight cotton shirt, and the fibre does not prickle because it is distributed through the knit rather than sitting on the surface.

Q: Will it shrink after washing?

A: Cold machine wash and line drying keeps the garment to its cut size. Hot water and tumble drying will shrink any blended knit, so treat it the way you would treat a woollen sweater and it will hold its measurements.

Q: How does the sizing run?

A: The body is regular rather than slim. If you wear a medium in European sportswear and want the same fit, take a medium here. If you prefer a closer line across the chest, size down one.

Q: Is this a genuine Japanese brand?

A: The pattern and the fabric weight follow Japanese casual tailoring conventions, and the garment is cut in Zhejiang, China. We describe the cut, not a nationality, because the construction is what you actually wear.

Q: Can it be worn in summer?

A: Yes in air conditioning, no in direct heat. The weave is breathable but the wool content gives it body. For high summer, our lighter cotton pieces are the better choice.

Q: Does the collar stay flat after several washes?

A: The collar band is reinforced and the wool content resists rolling. Hand-shaping it once while damp after washing is enough to keep the line intact.

Q: What does Mo Lan mean in the colour list?

A: It is the trade name for the deep indigo-grey shade in this range, closer to a washed navy than to black. It was the first colourway to sell out in our autumn allocation.

Good, size down if you want it close

Fabric and stitching are genuinely better than the price suggests. The body is regular rather than slim, so I would size down next time for a closer line across the chest.

The Mo Lan colour is the one

Ordered the Mo Lan after going back and forth, and it reads as a deep washed navy rather than black. Sleeve length is right for my 180cm frame and the hem stays put when I reach across a desk.

Collar actually holds its shape

Three washes in and the collar still stands up the way it did out of the bag. The wool content is noticeable in the drape without making it warm, which is exactly what I wanted for office wear.
