描述

Every house has one room where the internet stops being a service and becomes a rumour. It is rarely the furthest room. It is the one behind two load-bearing walls, or the one where the router's signal has to pass a chimney breast and a mirrored wardrobe to arrive as a bar and a half. Nobody wants to rewire a house to fix it.

The Wallbreaker is a 2.4GHz extender built for exactly that geometry. Four high gain antennas push up to 300Mbps across the band that actually carries through walls, which is why this operates on 2.4GHz rather than chasing a 5GHz figure that will not survive the first internal wall. Two modes cover the two situations that matter: repeater mode picks up the existing network and re-broadcasts it into the dead zone, and access point mode uses the wired Ethernet port to turn an existing cable run into a proper Wi-Fi source instead of an overloaded repeater hop. WPS pairing connects the unit to the router with a button press on both, and WDS support lets it join a wider mesh arrangement if the building already has one.

Setup is the part that decides whether a device like this gets used. The unit is small, wall-mounted, and configured through a browser interface from a phone or laptop, with the Ethernet port available for a device that needs a stable line rather than a hopeful one. For a home office at the back of a flat, a garage workshop, an attic room or a small office with one stubborn corner, this is the inexpensive answer that does not involve drilling cable routes through three rooms.

Coverage is not a speed number. It is whether the call drops when you walk into the kitchen.

Key Features

  • ✦ Up to 300Mbps over 2.4GHz, the band that carries through internal walls

Where It Belongs

Home offices at the far end of a flat use repeater mode so video calls stop freezing when the door closes. Garages and workshops use access point mode with a cable run, which gives a stable line to a laptop or a printer that has no business being on Wi-Fi at all. Attic conversions and garden rooms use the four antenna arrangement to reach through masonry that a router in the hallway cannot cross. Small retail and clinic spaces use the Ethernet port for a point of sale terminal where a dropped connection costs money rather than patience.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Will it double my internet speed?

No. An extender repeats the signal it receives, so it fixes coverage, not throughput. If your existing connection is fast and the problem is distance, this is the right tool. If the problem is a slow line, an extender will not change that.

Q: Why is this 2.4GHz and not 5GHz?

Because 2.4GHz travels through walls and 5GHz largely does not. For getting a usable signal into a room behind masonry, the lower band is the one that works.

Q: Do I need to run a cable?

Only for access point mode, which is the better option if a cable already exists. Repeater mode needs nothing but mains power and a WPS button press.

Q: Can it connect to a router that has no WPS button?

Yes. The browser interface lets you select the network and enter the password manually, which is also the more reliable method on older routers.

Q: How many devices can it handle?

Typical household use, phones, laptops, a television and a few smart devices, is well within the range of a 300Mbps 2.4GHz radio. It is not intended for a busy office with dozens of simultaneous clients.

Q: Does it work with a mesh system?

WDS support lets it join a compatible wider arrangement, but the simplest and most stable configuration is a single repeater or access point on a conventional router.

Ethernet port made the difference

I ran it in access point mode off an existing cable to give a stable line to a printer that was hopeless on Wi-Fi. Four antennas reach through brick without drama.

Does what it should, not a speed boost

Important to understand this extends coverage rather than increasing speed. Once I set that expectation it has been exactly right for the garage workshop.

Fixed the dead room behind the chimney

Repeater mode got a usable signal into the back bedroom where the router could not reach. WPS pairing took under a minute and it has not dropped in three months.
